The UPCS Replacement

After 20+ years of using the UPCS (Uniform Condition Standards), HUD/REAC is rolling out a new inspection protocol for affordable housing. It’s called NSPIRE – National Standards for Inspecting Real Estate. 

In addition to reducing the number of “inspectable areas” from five to three, HUD is completely revamping nearly all the defect definitions with a new focus on resident safety. 

As HUD finalizes this new inspection standard, we are developing this simple to use field chart with easy to understand definitions so you can quickly get up to speed on these completely changed inspection standards.
